Joining Astronautica (work in progress)

Astronautica does not have a formal membership program yet. This page captures how joining might work in the future, along with the expectations we believe should come with cooperative membership. Consider it a draft manual for a community we are still recruiting.

If you’re reading this while Astronautica is still a one-person experiment, the best way to help is to share feedback, volunteer your perspective, or connect us with people who believe in cooperative space access.

Membership concepts

Instead of hard tiers, we are exploring contribution “archetypes” that describe how people might engage. These are not contracts—just mental models that will eventually inform policy.

Founding Builder (concept)

Infrastructure shapers

People who can dedicate significant time to drafting charter language, designing systems, and leading pilots.

Needs clarity on time commitment, decision authority, and recognition.

Mission Specialist (concept)

Targeted expertise

Contributors who jump in for sprints—legal review, design studies, policy drafting, campaign strategy.

Needs workflow to request/track specialist support.

Support Crew (concept)

Momentum sustainers

Volunteers who help with research, community programming, and operations on a flexible schedule.

Needs clear task backlog and easy handoff processes.

Onboarding ideas

The steps below represent a possible onboarding flow once we have infrastructure to support new members. They are intentionally rough so we can debate and refine them later.

Mission Brief

Step 1

Attend an introductory call or review a pre-recorded briefing to understand goals and expectations.

Alignment Session

Step 2

Chat with a future steward (or with me for now) to match your skills to a planned arm.

Activation Sprint

Step 3

Complete a 30-day contribution experiment with check-ins and a retrospective.

Ongoing Cadence

Step 4

Set participation rhythm (hours per month) and document outcomes in the knowledge base.

TODO: create onboarding materials, orientation scripts, and documentation templates once additional contributors join.

Share your interest

Use the lightweight form below to tell me how you’d like to help. Submissions currently go nowhere but the console—this is a placeholder until we stand up a real CRM or cooperative forum.

Thanks for sharing. I’ll reach out manually once we have next steps.

What needs to happen next

  • Draft membership agreement aligned with cooperative law.

  • Decide on dues, if any, and how to handle financial transparency from day one.

  • Design a secure, open-source workflow to capture member data and contributions.

  • Recruit a handful of early contributors willing to co-create the onboarding journey.

Until those pieces are in place, consider yourself on the ground floor. Reach out with ideas, questions, or concerns—everything is still editable.
